The Witangemót

The Witangemót represents the senior spiritual authority of the Fellowship, and is chaired by the Uþwita. This body consists of the following types of persons:

Híredgeréfas

A híredgeréfa is the senior cleric for his or her congregation, and represents that congregation’s interests in the Witangemót. He or she is entitled to sit upon the Witangemót in a voting capacity for the duration of his or her tenure in that position.

Wéofodþegnas

A wéofodþegn may attend the Witangemót in an advisory capacity.

Drýmenn

A drýmann or drýicge is entitled to sit upon the Witangemót in a voting capacity for life.

The Duguþ

The Duguþ is the executive committee of the Witangemót, and is primarily comprised of laymen. These officers are responsible for the day to day operation of the Fellowship at every level. These officers execute the policies which are authorized by the entire Witangemót. The Stihtere chairs this permanent committee, unless for whatever reason he or she is unavailable or there is currently nobody filling this position, in which case the Uþ-Wita takes direct control of the Duguþ. Consult the section on Member Standings for more details on the specific duties of these officials. The following are the categories of persons who participate in the Duguþ:

þegnas

Any person of þegn rank, whether by grant of the Witan, or warranted by their duties as Fellowship functionaries, shall be entitled to attend the Duguþ in an advisory role.

Ealdorþegnas

The several senior officers of the Fellowship including the Hordere, Stihtere, and Lárwita hold the status of ealdorþegn, and shall sit on the Duguþ in a voting capacity for the duration of their service.

The Micelgeþeat

The Micelgeþeat is the second permanent committee, and is comprised of the drýmenn only. This committee is responsible for making determinations about religious doctrine, and custom. As it is comprised only of senior holy folk, this body is also considered to be the governing body of the clergy. The Uþwita serves as chair for this committee, and the Larwita as vice-chair.
