In 2008, The GFS Witan decided to initiate a charitable outreach program, called The Red Hammer. The purpose of this program is philanthropic, and the primary vehicle for this work will be collection of donations, and contribution of said donation to a reputable charity on an annual basis. The details are as follows:
- Non GFS members are welcome to donate, and any Heathen organization which wishes to endorse and participate in this program may assign a trustee to the charity selection committee.
- The charity to receive the funds will be determined yearly. Suitable organizations will be selected by a committee, comprised of the full GFS Witan, in cooperation with any outside trustees from other participating organizations. This list of candidate charities will be presented to the vetted GFS membership for review, and a finalist selected based on member input.
- Donations to the selected charity will be made in one lump sum, yearly.
- The charity selected will be a US national, or international organization which focuses on: environmental conservation, human rights, religious freedoms, hunger, housing, or education.
