What would people like to see on the site?

I was thinking we might want to have a public members’ page where we post pictures of ourselves and a little bio blurb, so people know who’s who (no, you don’t have to use your legal name if you’re not comfortable with the whole world knowing, like my stalkers back East), and a _public_ weofod page (besides a private spot on the forum). That’s just a suggestion… not a demand.

In terms of article topics, for those of you who are new-er to Fyrnsidu, what would be most helpful to you, do you think? I know what would be interesting to write, but I want to ask what would actually be useful, esp. for newbies.

We used to have a brief description of the Holy Days observed in the GFS, and sample outlines for a bletsung rite and for symble. These, I think, would be helpful especially to newcomers. One of the previous permutations of the web site also had a “Wordhoarde,” a glossary of terms. This is something that would be equally useful to newcomers and to those who aren’t quite so new.

I knew I was forgetting to do something; it was the Wordhorde! I keep having people ask me “what does such and such OE term mean” because I think everyone in the world speaks fluent AS, apparently. ^^

I know we have a bletsúng ritual on the Clergy site although I think it would be helpful to mention holytides. IMHO.

I should work on the Wordhorde thingee.

Thank you!

I would also like ritual templates or sample rituals as a reference.

I know there’s a sample húselgang on the Clergy page. I think there should be a brief overview of the holytides but I don’t know about making a ritual template per holytide because each individual hearth/congregation likely has their own associations per holytide. For example, a hearth led by Wodensfolc is more likely to focus on Woden during Yule, whereas my own focuses more on Ing-Fréa. It’s not a bad idea to give an overview and some different suggestions on observing the holidays nonetheless.

I personally think we might want to have templates for weddings and funerals in a Fyrnsidu context. It looks like I will be performing a wedding in the not-too-distant future. :D

Siggy, Maybe something on personal pratice of our path? I have been doing a lot of camping this summer have have built a stone hearg in the mountains to the Wans. Anyway, I have been taking my horn and some beer up along with food offerings each time I come to the area. My wife has joined me a few times and once one of our kinsmen. I find it really to feel the presence of the Gods and local spirits there. I just hope some passing jerk does not knock it down?

I would like to see others speak of their personal ways too. I think it is important to show new folks that you can fain the Gods more than 8 times a year. It helps to build a stronger connection with them when we do. I think it is a good think for folks to start off with a small weofod in their homes too. What do you think of a personal pratice article?

I like this.

What I would really like to see on the site, and I don’t know if others would be in favor, but a page with pictures of shrines, and those who want to share pictures of their shrines can add a few paragraphs about their personal practice. I am in favor of getting people to pray more and connect with the Holy Ones more, myself. I know we have a space on the forum for shrines and rituals but I’d like to have a page on the site.

I might bring this up in that section of the forum and see what folks think.

All I have to do now is figure how to use my new camera to upload on to the computer?? Us old folks just have such a hard time with this new fangled stuff, hehehe.. I’d like to send pics of my weofod and the outdoors hearg I built too. I think prayer is very important and is over looked by a lot of heathens. Some may see it as a xtian thing, or just not very important to us folks? If it brings us closer to the holy powers and makes our connection with them stronger then I am for it. I know it has worked for me and others who pray and offer to the Gods on a regular basis.

Aw it’s OK, I’m something of a luddite myself. My other half has a cell phone camera and so we upload pics to the computer via the little card thingee in his cell phone. If you have a digital camera you can usually get it to upload to the computer. If you have one of the older cameras you could always take pictures, develop them, and run them through a scanner printer.

I’m probably not helping, lol.

I think regular honor of the Holy Ones is very important. The high holy days are important to honor the seasonal cycles and thus the cycles of life, and keep balance. But I think everyday prayer is important, and if a person has a fulltrui it’s very important to regularly commune with that Deity; even if there is no fulltrui relationship it’s still good to talk with the Gods, gift Them, and the wights and beloved dead too. Having a shrine space whether indoors or outdoors is good as a permanent place to commune with the Holy Ones. It creates balance and keeps the blessings flowing. I don’t know why some Heathens are against the idea of prayer or a devotional practice. It’s not asking for 100% of one’s free time, just a little bit.

Siggy, I agree with you a nd perhaps we can do an article on this? I’ll ask my 25 years old son to show me how to up load pics from my camera. On another subject, I got Paxon’s Ta.king Up the Runes and am just reading it now.
