I really like the clean simplicity of this new site. My vote is to replace the old GFS website with this one.

I concur, I think you should replace the old one. WordPress pwns Joomla.

I think it looks really great; much better than the old one.

Indeed. WordPress pwns Joomla. I used to think highly of Joomla, but Gawds, what spagetti that thing has turned into.

I’m finding it very confusing. I have neither the time nor the inclination right now to wade to pages of instructions for new WordPress users. However, if other’s feel this is the way to go I have no objections; I’ll trudge my way through it eventually, technological Neanderthal that I am!

  8. My face pwns joomla. haha

    Bardawulf,

What about the new site is giving you trouble? Maybe we can make it easier.

I just find the entire layout very confusing. It was much easier to find what I was looking for on the older sites. It’s not immediately clear to me where I’m able to post and read comments. This was much clearer to me, before.

An example. Under the section “Recent Forum Posts” (bottom, right-hand side of page), it seems most of what I click to view gives me the response, “Sorry, but you don’t have access to this forum.”

The “Forums” set-up on the old site was much better organized, and much better defined (in my opinion). I could easily tell if a post was in a Forum to which I had access… or not. I’m just finding it very frustrating to go clicking about to see what I can, or cannot read.

Actually, the site two manifestations ago was my favorite, both aesthetically and for ease of use. I still lament the loss of that site!

I will say, as more content is being put up on the site and with the expansion of the “Categories” section, some things are becoming clearer. So I am hopeful that with time, more of it will make sense to me.

Oh, and I find it maddening that I can’t find a way to change that fuscia icon that somehow got assigned to my profile!

    : )

  12. I have the same question than Bardawulf about icons :P.

Well, I only new the previous site, and I find this aesthetically better. I don’t have problems with the organization of the site, I find things quickly (but I use to use Wordpress for some years now :P).
At least, I have the same problem with the “recent posts” from the forum than Bardawulf, you don’t know if you have access to one or not.

  13. At the top of the page where it says “forums”, click that. I talk about changing the icon in the Outer Hall “community Discussion” board in a thread called “website help”.

I never pay attention to “recent posts”. I just go straight to the forums and see who’s posting what. Also if you click on each guild, such as Warrior, or Clergy, they have their own forums as well.

  14. Recent posts in the other guilds don’t show up on the main page.

The icons are generated mathematically. To get your own, you need to use a Gravatar (Global Avatar). Go to gravatar.com, and it will explain it all.
